Sassa Disability Grant Application: In South Africa, it is known as the Disability Grant. This is a grant that you can apply for if you’re ill or disabled so that you will get money to continue your work. Sassa’s Disability Grant

 A Disability Grant’s Eligibility Criteria

• In the case of a married applicant, his spouse should not receive any other social grant.
• Singles should not earn more than R86 280 per month, and their assets shouldn’t be worth more than R1 227 600. You should not earn more than R172 560 per year if you are married, and your assets should not exceed R2 455 200.

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will receive the medical report after the medical checkup. From the date of assessment, this is valid for three months.

To apply for a Sassa Disability Grant, you will need the following documents:

Documents that are required for the application process must be available in order for the process to be completed. To qualify for the grant, you must bring the following documents.

• Barcoded ID documents (must have 13 digits)
• Medical records and reports from the previous applicant are also required for the assessment

If you are disabled and your service provider has agreed to be your guardian, then you need not do anything. But if you do not have an identity document or birth certificate, then you need to apply for Care Dependency Grant by completing the prescribed affidavit in a standard SASSA format.

There are various documents that you need to apply for before you can get the grant. These include Identity documents (ID), proof of age, and a Police clearance certificate (if required). You must apply for ID within three months of applying for the grant if you do not want your application to be rejected or suspended. A sworn statement is also required to be signed by a reputable person for verification of your age and name.

Sassa officials will also take your fingerprints in case you do not have ID documents. Even though the Department of Home Affairs has issued a letter outlining the entire process, it is important that you understand what it takes to receive funds under this scheme because, at times, information about how to apply can be out of date or missing.

What is the process for applying for a disability grant?

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is the main agency that administers social grants in South Africa. Although payments are made to individuals, the majority of payments are made on behalf of children and spouses. If you are unable to attend a local Sassa office, then your family member or friend can apply on your behalf using a card known as ‘Statement on Behalf’. You will fill out the form with all your relevant information, sign it and then take it to the Sassa office where they will process your application and give you your receipt which is proof of payment.

• When transferring money directly to a bank, grant beneficiaries have the option to choose the bank.
• An Institute (such as a home for disabled persons or an institute not funded by the state)
• You are not liable for any costs if you choose the Sassa card account. Sassa cards are issued by the South African Post Office.

Suspended grant for the following reasons:

The next step you have to take is to inform the department about any change. It can be for your own health, the special needs of your family or children, in case you are undergoing treatment for mental illness. If you fail to inform about such changes, that may result in grant suspension. The grant can be suspended because of the following reasons:

• Changes in medical or financial circumstances
• The grant will be reviewed if you failed to cooperate
• Whenever false information is provided, fraud is committed, or misrepresentations are made
• When applying for a grant, an error may occur
• The review outcome is pending

It is possible to request a restoration within 90 days of being informed of the suspension.

Lapsing of the grant:

An application for a disability grant may not be successful because it is late or incomplete for any reason. If you have applied for a disability grant, you must notify the Department of Social Welfare immediately to avoid the loss of the grant. You should also inform the department that you are eligible for a new or extended grant no later than one month after the lapse.
